Below Deck Spray Foam Insulation
Foam insulation is often used to protect the decking that makes up the underside of a rooftop. This type of insulation expands, sealing cracks that could potentially lead to leaks.
The Inspection
Foam insulation can be applied to the underside of existing decking materials. It can also be applied at the onset of installing a brand-new roof. The use of insulation greatly improves the strength of a rooftop. This type of insulation is commonly used in regions that experience heavy rainfall, sleet, and snow.
An inspection process will always be conducted at the onset of a roofing project. An inspection helps a contractor determine the layout for the new roofing materials. The contractor will configure how many materials will be needed to construct the decking.
The decking will meet with the interior walls that are located on the top floor of a home. For instance, if a home contains an attic, the underside of the decking will be located within the attic space. The decking will be installed along the entire surface area where a new roof is going to be installed.
If an inspection of an existing rooftop is going to be performed, a contractor will measure the decking. This will help them calculate how much spray foam insulation will be needed.
The Onset Of The Project
A contractor will install spray foam insulation first. The insulation will need to cure, prior to adding roofing materials over the decking. The underside of the decking will not have any roofing materials secured directly to it. If a roofing contractor is going to be applying spray foam insulation to existing decking materials, they will clean the materials first. Cleaning the materials may be necessary for the insulation to adhere properly.
The Application
Spray foam products will be prepared onsite. A roofing contractor will ensure that plenty of ventilation is available while they are installing a layer of foam insulation. An expandable foam product needs to be sprayed directly on the surfaces that are going to be insulated.
A contractor will apply the foam insulation product evenly across the underside of the decking materials. Once the application of the insulation is complete, the contractor will schedule an appointment to begin installing the rooftop.
The Installation
Before the roofing system is installed, the contractor who applied the insulation may inspect the insulation one last time. Then, they will get to work on laying roofing materials out and installing them on a home.
