How Do You Prepare For A Roof Replacement?

Replacing a roof is a big job. Luckily, there are roofing companies that bring amply-sized teams to do this work, so you do not have to do it yourself. You should, however, take steps to prepare for a roof replacement. Here are the basic steps to follow in the days leading up to your roof job.

Remove fragile decor from your walls.

Your roofers will be pounding on the roof pretty hard when they are nailing down shingles. This can cause some rattling and vibrations that could vibrate the decorations right off your walls. So, if you have anything breakable on your walls, such as glass photo frames, now is the time to remove them. Put them somewhere safe and flat so that they won't vibrate off.

Move patio furniture.

Patio furniture may get in the way of the dumpers and ladders that the roofers need to put up. It may also get covered in shingle bits and nails if you leave it in place. So, take the time to move your patio furniture before the roofers arrive. Put it in your garage or shed so it's well protected.

Cover items in the attic.

Some shingle debris often comes into the attic during a roof replacement. This is especially likely if any part of your roof deck is damaged and needs to be replaced. To protect your possessions from shingle dust, cover them all in sheets. Later, after the roof work is done, you can remove the sheets and vacuum up the debris. If there is anything truly valuable in your attic, consider bringing it downstairs for the duration of the roof project.

Contact your satellite provider.

If you have a satellite dish on your roof, contact the provider and ask them whether they need to take it down. Some companies will send out a technician. Others will tell you that it's fine for your roofer to remove and replace the satellite for them.

Close and lock your windows.

The vibrations from the pounding can cause open windows to rattle in their frames, which is not good for the frames and can occasionally lead to broken glass. So, you should latch and lock all of your windows before your roof is replaced.

If you prepare for a roof replacement in all of the ways above, your roofers can get moving sooner after arriving at your home.
