Roof Repair: The Non-Obvious Signs You Need It
From roof damming repair needs to other roof repairs, it's not always easy to see when your roof is in danger and needs some repair done to it. After all, your roof is a very large structure and what you see on the outside is only a small part of what your roof actually is.
While it takes a roofing specialist to be able to see what the best way to take care of your roof may be, there are several ways you can tell if your roof repair needs are real or if you can wait to have roofing repair done. You know to check for leaks in your ceiling and attic and for shingles and roofing materials hanging down or being on the ground, but there are other less-obvious ways to tell if your roof is in need of roof repair. Speak to your roofing contractor to learn more, but here are the other ways you can tell if your roof is in need of repair.
Note: the older the roof, the more roof repair you may need.
You have pooled water or debris in one spot on the roof
What you're looking for are spots on the roof that have debris and/or water in them. Why is this relevant? It's relevant to roof repair concerns because a roof slants for a reason. Your roof is slanted to allow water runoff and to prevent debris from staying on the roof. Spots where there is pooled water or debris means that you have dips in your roof. Dips equal roof repair needs and should be addressed by your roof contractor.
You have thick ice under snow on your roof
Heat escapes via your roof, even in winter. When it's snowing out, the heat from your roof causes the snow to melt. The melted snow then freezes when the weather gets colder, and the process repeats. This eventually leads to water being stuck between the ice and snow on your roof, and the water has to go somewhere. The weight of the snowfall on your roof along with the trapped water means your roof is at risk of either leaking into your home or caving or sinking in.
Call your roof repair specialist to have roof damming done right away. Provided you don't have several more snow storms, you should be able to have this service done once to get relief for your roof and home in general.
